Hydrogen peroxide as carpet cleaner for pasta stains

Hi all, desperate times - my brother spilt pasta sauce all over my mum's new carpet as my parents were out for the night. I've dabbed at the stain with vinegar and water and left carpet cleaner soaking into it overnight. I read a few posts online that recommend hydrogen peroxide as a carpet cleaner with some drops of washing up liquid. I was wondering if anyone had tried this before? Surely you'd need to dilute it to prevent it from bleaching the carpet? Ours is pale purple, but would still show signs of fading I'm sure.
Failing that, does anyone have alternative suggestions for removing the pasta stain before all hell breaks loose?
