What would you do?

Hello my fellow MSE compers,

I've just noticed my answers for the Chat magazine puzzles are being copied and pasted into another competition website. I know they are being copied and pasted because I don't copy some of the T&Cs word for word from the magazine, but point out the main terms.

I fully appreciate that once I have posted these, anyone can access them. But I feel that I do this for the MSE community to give back to everyone here. I'm sure answers do get lifted from here and posted elsewhere on the internet.

Doing these puzzles and uploading the answers here can take me up to 5 hours some weeks, plus the cost of the magazine and the petrol to the shop to buy it. It is disheartening when someone lifts your effort and give you no credit for it and all I can see is praise for the person who's nicked my post and posted it elsewhere. :-(

I suppose there isn't much I can do, but would like to hear your thoughts.
Thank you so much to everyone who post & help with comps! :j

I completely understand where you are coming from but I don't think there is anything you can do. To contact the other site would be a waste of time as they would just deny it or say they you copied from them.

Thank you for your efforts here though - you are a star in my eyes :)
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea
  • No I don't think there is anything I can actually do. Just that seeing messages to that member with "Thank you so much for all your hard work" and them liking that message, is beyond cheeky. :(

Thank you anyway BlueBella - to be a star in your eyes, makes me feel better!! lol ;)

Post a wrong answer one week and see if they copy you then ;) That way you will know for sure they are taking off you and can't say you are for them!

Thanks for all your posts :) x

hi luckyseven, unfortunately this has been happening for years
where the magazine comps are copied & posted on other comps sites, same with the postal/texts comps,
if you search back on mse you'll find many posts from the mag posters over the years regarding it,
when I used to post majority of the mags they all got copied onto other sites as did the other mag posters comps,
even when reporting to the 'other' sites admin about them copying I was told their members do their own 'research'
I once (as did some other mag posters) reported it to abuse at the time (quite a few years ago) & was told as this is an open forum there was nothing they could do to stop anyone pasting/copying the posts, it's swings & roundabouts unfortunately, some comps are posted on other sites first then copied onto here & vice versa,
I could find all the relevant posts for you but it would take time to filter through them all & if you want my honest opinion I gave it all up as a bad job worrying about it a while back as there's nothing can be done about it & at least you know you've done the puzzles & helped others & can have a clear conscience.

Yeah, it's unfair. Trouble is, being honest, the magazines probably feel similarly about their answers being posted at all. Perhaps it would help to think of it in those terms? Thank you LOADS for posting the answers, at least you know we appreciate you :T:T:T

Thanks for all your hard work posting.

Not that it would make any difference, but just for your own amusement, you could include somewhere in the middle of the text something like "by Luckyseven MSE" and then if it gets copied across without a detailed check, you will be able to it point out on the other site, so their members know.
  • Thank you all for your lovely replies! It's great being part of a wonderful community. :D

Fire**fly this is what I thought about this being done for years. It's a shame some people claim to work through the puzzles and take all the credit for it. Yes, I agree, I am just going to let it go and not let it trouble me.

Next week I'm going to try a little something different, so watch this space!! ;)

    Karma is a wonderful thing.....

Registering with the site in question & posting the mag answers on there before they can be copied & pasted off here could be the best option.

I disagree with gorsty15's point about intentionally adding incorrect answers.
