In my day Noel Edmunds put his hand in a big sack and pulled one out, now with postcard and phone entries how to do they do it? They surely cant log every postcard entry onto a computer data base to put it with phone entries?

If it's postcard only they will still pick one from a big sack.
If they have 2,000 postcards and 10,000 electronic entries then they should allocate the electronic entries a number 1-10,000 and then pick a random number between 1 and 12,000. If the winning number is 10,001-12,000 then it is hand in sack time again. They don't really need to count the postcards accurately - a good estimate will do.
If all else fails then the winner will be the manager's friend0 -
Thanks, I dont do postcard entries but was temped by one comp and wondered if there was any point if it had phone text entries as well.0

Factually incorrect!!!!!!!
The pick from the sack route is used by smaller publishers i.e childrens magazines and other small outfits.
Your point about allocating numbers etc simply does not happen, at least in the major handling houses.
If a promotion has several methods of entry(post, txt, email etc) then all entries are pooled, automatically, into a single database.
Postcards are scanned on receipt and enter the same database as every other entry, all have an equal chance of winning.0
