I'm surprised you can't find a daytime Xmas fayre menu within budget if you go to a pub unless you live in an expensive part of the UK. First chain I googled

Most places offer a white meat usually turkey, a red meat, a fish dish and a veggie option. The carnivore isn't forced to eat the veggies on his/her plate

Restaurants might be more tricky though coming in at budget. Depends where you go though. Here's Frankie and Bennys at £19.95, though it's a chicken dinner rather than a turkey one.

  • Oh, how I wish we could all just go to Wetherspoons. But I can hear the screams of the traditionalist. Also, the area of our work would make Wetherspoons, pubs and one or two other entertainment venues a controversial choice - bit too much of a busman's holiday.

Get everyone to suggest their ideal place, then put them all in a hat and let the gods decide :)

Well maybe the traditionalist might need to realise if they dont get their finger out of their backside they'll be going nowhere.

And if they cant not have a sit down turkey meal to make everyone elses life easier, if you dont go to Wetherspoon, I would estimate you might pay anything up to double the price.

It doesnt look as if you are going to get a venue thats going to suit the needs of everyone and perhaps thats going to have to be said and then leave them to argue it out.

I wouldnt be putting any effort into booking something for a bunch of people who quite frankly sound selfish. Ive worked in jobs where weve had no choice as to where the christmas night out is/was or lunch was and we've had to like it or lump it

Do you have a Toby Carvery near you. They do a sit down buffet, its not expensive and they also do a vegetarian option as well. I went to my local one last January for a night out just after the new year.

Why isn't the company paying? To be fair I wouldn't want to pay more than £20 for a sort of forced Christmas lunch. If they have to pay for themselves maybe the question you should be asking is does anyone actually want to go at all or is it "expected"?

Companies dont always pay for a Xmas lunch. A lot of companies dont have the spare cash to pay for Christmas lunches and nights out.
  • Why on earth would a company pay for a Christmas lunch?
And certainly in the NHS we would never get anything paid for!!

To be fair, though, I wouldn't want to pay £20+ for a lunch I didn't want to go to. I always declined on the work holiday lunches as well as the Christmas evening out. It was always the most expensive place in the area (well well over £20), and a huge hassle. The evening do was a study in "binge drinking" and always dodgy nonsense going on.

The first year, I suggested something a bit less expensive and got shouted down. Our budget was not so lax that I was able or willing to fork out money on something I didn't want.

If it was a tenner in Wetherspoons, I'd have gone without a problem.
