Amazon Trade In

Hi, many of you may already know but last night I discovered I could trade in my books for gift vouchers on Amazon. This was new to me and was really great as I have a lot of new books that I will no longer read. Not so much a money income (so not sure if in right forum here).

You can also trade in video games.

For more info check out here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200551750#limit

There are limits on how much you can trade in though:

"The total value of any single trade-in submission is up to £150. If you want to trade in items with a total value greater than £150, you'll need to make multiple trade-in submissions.
You can trade in up to a quantity of two identical items within any 3-month period. For example, if you submitted one copy of a video game on January 1 and you submitted one more copy of the same video game before March 31, then you can trade-in the third copy from April 1."

It's a good way to get rid of some books which otherwise would end up going to charity (large hardback book). 25p is better than nothing.

Sometimes the prices offered for some titles are rubbish though

I've not had any luck with this. I have sent them three items (all at different times) and they claim that every one was lost in the post. I am someone who posts lots of parcel every week & it's been months since an item has gone missing, so I was a tad surprised!
  • Used them several times this year to offload some used and unused uni books, made over £180 over three loads sent in, was rather pleased, was straightforward to use and quick to get the funds paid into my Amazon account! Much easier than eBay!

It's worth checking the marketplace prices too, you can often sell them for quite a lot more in the market place than amazon offers, although you do have to pay fees on this money. Once book I sold, amazon were offering £15 trade in, I sold it for £50 on their market place.

Well I went to the website and checked out the customer feedback. A large amount of unhappy people are reporting that the books are being rejected but are not being returned, or the books that are returned are not the ones that were originally sent. Maybe there are some dishonest book dealers trading on Amazon?
Also the criteria is quite tight. Only books on 'the list' and in top condition are deemed acceptable.

I won't be bothering. I'll wait till Spring and carry on selling them at the boot sale.

    Val.
  • Sorry its not been so good for some of you. My first time I traded in a new hardback book and got £5.50 gift voucher. I posted it on Saturday with the free postage label and got the gift voucher into my account last night (Weds). I think it depends what type of books they are and I think you may get more for hardback.
