Hesitant about using address

Unless its a reputable website and fairly well known I don't feel safe putting my address on there.
I see most wins they just turn up, so I could be missing out here.
When did you start entering competitions that require the address for entry?

hon years ago and when the unreputable sites turn up we will let you know there is always someone0

My address is on the electoral register, so I don't have an issue with putting it online.0

Just give them what they need to know, I only ever fill the fields which are mandatory, the ones marked with a red * star.0

dont fret about your address they wont do anything untoward ive had no problems and if there is it will go on the spam list on hereWhat goes around-comes around0

Sort've agree, but it has to be your choice. Can't make any guarantees, but then again, one could also choose never to leave the house for fear of being burgled.
So far, I've not had any grief from leaving my address with thousands of comps, reputable and I'm sure plenty of non rep, that slipped through the net.
TBH, I'm more paranoid about leaving my phone number. I do, but I'm a bit more careful with that, because I think it's more likely to be abused than a street address. I almost never use my mobile. When it asks for that I use my landline number, because I hate the though of junk phonecalls when I'm out and about. But really, even with my landline, it's quite rare for me to get follow up marketing. Does happen, but maybe once or twice a month????
I think our wonderful comping experts do a great job in weeding out the bad comps here :T:T:A:T:T
But as I said, it has to be your choice and what you feel comfortable with. More important to feel safe than to win a few bobs n bits huh?

If you're worried I would say never to enter competitions the minute that they are posted. If you leave it a while a more knowledgeable comper will always quickly point out if a site is suspect.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

Great tip.
I've been comping for 3 years (on and off) and only give my address if it's required. I am quite meticulous about opting out of anything I possibly can, and usually wouldn't enter something if it was a requirement to get a paper catalogue, as I imagine you'd then be basically opting in to getting all of the company's future promotional materials as well.
Despite this, I still probably get a catalogue for something or other every couple of weeks. But really, that's not so bad. I just stick them straight in the recycling. You have to think about what the worst that can happen is, and that is pretty much it, and it's not really that big a deal. It doesn't really accumulate much over time, because very few companies are posting stuff out (it's the same few culprits) - it's much cheaper for them to bombard you by email.
Like Blu, I'm much more precious about my phone number, and don't give it unless I have to (and then only if I can opt out of phone calls or it's a company I know won't make them), because spam calls are much more annoying (to me) than spam mail. BUT it's again more expensive and time-consuming for companies to make calls than to email or post stuff, so not that likely to be a widespread thing. I've had maybe 5 - 10 marketing calls over the past three years, as a result of comping.0 -
But think of all the great travel brochures you're missing out on!0
