I will be catering a bonfire party on Sunday evening and I have done for years - except this year Oldest Granddaughter has become Vegetarian.
now while the menfolk are playing around lighting fireworks I do hotdogs (so they can eat and light the blue touchpaper at the same time) then when fireworks are over we have a 'party'! and I do a 'buffet' so veggie options are not a problem there. the family will eat both! its the 'hot dog' time that worries me!
I would like to know whether to get some 'vegetarian' sausages for GD, or make her something completely different (don't really want to do that - she would prefer to 'join in' I think).
What would you all suggest? Will be shopping for the party tomorrow and I am honestly in a quandary!

Use a different brand of ordinary sausages just for her. Tell her it's Quorn and according to their adverts - you can't tell the difference!:)0

Wrap a potato up in foil and stick it in the bonfire......:beer:0

I can only speak for myself, but I'd like vegetarian sausages or hot dogs if it was me. I had a Quorn sausage in a hot dog once from Ikea, it was cooked in a steamer and it was very much like a hot dog. They also do Frankfurter type Quorn sausages now, but to me they have a very strong and fake-tasting smoke flavour.
Linda McCartney's are quite nice if you want to go the soy route. Cauldron foods Lincolnshire style sausages used to be lovely, but I had some recently and the "skins" were tough as rubber, ugh.
There are some kosher Vegetarian Frankfurter types available as well, often sold frozen. Haven't eaten them for years but I remember they were quite nice.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
I can recommend Quorn sausages. Linda McCartney ones also nice, but I find them quite salty.
If you have an ASDA nearby, I really rate their frozen veggie range. They do a variety of burgers and different flavoured sausages: all very nice!0 -
Linda McCartney ones are ok, cheapest are in Iceland £1.50 for 6, they are more expensive in Tesco, I also think that Asda do a very good own range of veggie sausages, also Aldi do 3 different kinds of veggie burger, beanburger, nut cutlet and a veg burger. Theres loads of choice out there, I dont rate quorn, much nicer meat free stuff out there.0

I think I have seen vegetarian frankfurters in health food shops, not too expensive!0

If she's only recently become vegetarian, she's probably eating meat substitutes, so I'd go with veggie sausages. Will you be using frankfurters for everyone else, or regular sausages? If it's franks, you can certainly replicate these - tivall do a frozen veggie frank (available in Tesco, according to mysupermarket). I've eaten veggie franks some years ago and tbh I reckon they tasted exactly the same as the meat version. If you're using proper sausages, there are lots of veggie versions available. Personally, I don't like the quorn ones but lots of people do, so you'll probably do best to ask her if she has a preference.Avoiding plastic, palm oil, UPF and Nestlé0

Why not just ask her would she like a veggie version of what you're making and if not what she would like?0
