I brought a tyre down to Kwik Fit to repair a puncture.
They phoned me and said it could not be repaired as the tube
was too badly damaged.
Quoted me £75 for the same grade of tyre, i said no thanks, of course.
So i brought it to Armstrong Beatties on Balloo Drive in Bangor
who said if it can't be repaired they will sell me the same tyre at £48.
Turned out they fixed the puncture for £11-50.
Not saying Kwik Fit were wrong of course.

I've had good service from Kwik Fit and I've had bad service from them. They're very handy and very Kwik, especially with things like tyres, brakes and exhausts. What I find you've got to be careful of is them bigging the job up.
Even the big garages know. My car's on contract hire and had a service three months ago at a well know dealer. They advised me that in around 2,000 miles I should take the car to Kwik Fit to have the front tyres changed. That's the way the contact works. They also advised me however to take no notice of what Kwik Fit said about the brake pads as they were more than sufficient to last until the next service. It seems they have experience of Kwik Fit changing brake pads unnecessarily on contract cars because they know no-one will challenge them.0 -
Sounds like they haven't changed in the last 14 years! I had a brand new car (company) and got a flat tyre when it had around 500 miles on the clock. Nearest place was Kwik-Fit, they replaced the tyre, then the mechanic told me that I needed a new exhaust & brake pads, as they had worn out.... I laughed and he told me that lots of women like me didn't understand cars - asked him to go look at car properly, note mileage and trip counter read the same and how new the tyres were... He walked over and looked then walked away...:D0

It is a valid point that many women are vulnerable to shifty mechanics this way but believe it or not there's a high percentage of men who know nothing about cars either and who can be caught exactly the same way.
