Halifax cheque clearance

Hi,
I am going to pay my wages cheque into my halifax reward account on Monday lunchtime.

Any idea when it will clear for withdrawal?

I usually use my nwb ac so I don't know.

Thanks.

  • Well, I think they usually say 4 - 5 days? However, when I put in a check a few weeks ago, it took around 6 days for it to clear. The amount was showing in my account, I just couldn't withdraw it until it cleared.

It is usually five working days to clear a cheque.

I thought all uk banks used 2 4 6 rule for cheques

The 2-4-6 timescales were introduced in November 2007. They set a maximum time limit of two, four and six working days for each stage after paying in a cheque to a current or basic bank account. The timescales cover cheques, bankers' drafts, bankers' cheques and building society cheques paid in to a UK sterling current or basic bank account.

2 days for interest to be applied, cheque clear on day 4 and fate of cheque certain on day 6

    MitchB is correct.

    All banks use 2-4-6.

After two days the cheque starts to earn interest on your account.

After four days the funds are available for you to use. However, if you have been issued the cheque by someone you don't know well you shouldn't spend the money at this stage because it can still bounce!

After six days the cheque can no longer bounce so you are safe to withdraw the funds.
