Cash for clothes/books

Hi all,
I have had a look around the site but can't find an article on this subject.
I am in the process of moving house and looking to declutter at the same time.
I don't have a car, so taking things to charity shops and recycling bins isn't an option.
I was considering using one of these cash for clothes websites, and if there is a similar one for books.
I'm not too worried about making a lot of money, it's just really the ease of someone coming and collecting it (if that's what they do). Otherwise it is all just going in the bin!
Does anyone have any suggestions of the best websites to look at for clothes and for books?
Thanks,
Tanya

I doubt anyone would collect apart from a charity.
Why not put them up on Gumtree or just get a charity shop to collect the stuff.
If the stuff is in good condition it is really sad to throw stuff away when it could be of use. Why fill up landfill with stuff?0 -
When I moved house eighteen months or so ago, I needed to do a big declutter. I contacted my chosen charity shop to explain that I was unable to bring things in myself and they arranged to collect. I can't remember which charity I chose at the time - Cancer Research probably - but I know most of them offer the service because 4 households within my extended family have all done something similar over the past few years.0

For the amount they pay, I'd rather get a local charity shop to collect if I didn't need the money.
If I wanted some money for it all, I'd sell as job lots on Gumtree, ebay or local FB selling pages.0 -
Hi. I've sold old books through the Trade In on Amazon, you can look up the books and then print off an address label and post them free of charge. However the books have to be in really good condition and usually recent editions. I did well with art books (one had actually gone up in value) but my novels weren't worth anything.0

Hi
I've not used them before for clothes, only CDs/DVDs but it may be worth checking out musicmagpie's clothes section if you have any high street/branded clothes - they have places like Next/New Look/TopShop etc on there as well as designer stuff.
If you have 25+ items they will collect from you.
I'm still waiting for the parcel to be picked up so will see how it goes/if I get the value for the stuff that they've offered or not, but I got the amount fine when I sent in some CD's/DVDs before.
They don't offer a lot for things, but if you're mainly just wanting to get rid of stuff then the money is a bonus.
But they've offered £10 for my playstation that has controllers missing and £5+ for a topshop coat that doesn't fit me any more and most of the other clothes were between 50p and £1.30 and I'd not been able to sell the stuff at a car boot. It's totalled up at £31 which I was pleased with for half an hour or so of typing the info in.0 -
Just thought I'd update on this for anyone searching...
I sent all my stuff to Music Magpie and have just checked my order status and they have rejected every single item of clothing saying that they are badly stained, have holes or ripped stitching or are excessively worn! I know for sure that this is not the case, could understand if they had rejected the odd item, but one was a coat that was in immaculate condition so they are clearly lying or they expect 2nd hand clothes to be in as new condition. Obviously it was taking a risk to send to them as they can now say what they like and I have no comeback! Definitely won't use them for clothes again, but they have accepted all the CDs I sent and the playstation so I would stick to only using them for these items and definitely not risk clothing as it's a complete con as they expect as new condition when they are paying tiny prices for them.0
