London's HUGE so an office on one side of town or the other makes the world of difference.

If it's a short walk from your mainline station you won't get caught up in rush-hour snarls - makes the world of difference. I used to come into Paddington and then have to cross to City, that took as long as getting to Paddington from Oxford.

Top tip - when looking at season tickets, look at first class. It's something like 60% more, but you may actually get a seat most days, and find yourself standing in Standard on the commuter services. And if your TOC has decent first class lounges, it makes your life much, much nicer if you're ever stranded for an hour!

Thank you. It's two tube stops to hatton garden from st pancras so only takes a few minutes. From what I seen so far, nottingham is quite easy to get a seat, so is Grantham but I think it starts getting busier later on. First class doesn't seem too extortionate but I would have to look into it more. A few weeks ago I actually managed to get quite a bit of work done on the journey, but as another pointed out- I'm sure the novelty might wear off!!

From the 8th of December East Mids Trains are speeding up the journey times to London a little.
Also is Grantham on your side of town that's another possible commute point.

    That's good to know, thanks!!

Yes Gratham is close by and usually a change over for the quick train

Tube from St Pancras to Hatton Garden (Chancery Lane?) or Blackfriars will be rammed and take a while to be catch.
Why not get the FCC train from St Pancras to Farringdon or Blackfriars? Compared with the tube it is:
    - Nearer to the EMT platform where your train comes in
    - Cheaper
    - Faster
    - More comfortable - you often get a seat from St Pancras and ALWAYS after Farringdon if you're going to Blackfriars
And trains run every four minutes in the peak.
    Can I help?

+1 for using FCC, Hatton Garden is a stones throw from Farringdon (wander up Greville Street and you're there!), nicer than the tube and should be able to save a few quid as well.

Personally where it's convenient I'd use FCC over the tube even if it cost more.

Time it walking, there are all kinds of problems that hit the tubes, including hot summer days when it's hot and sticky! That's when you want to know how long the walk takes...

From Nottingham might be easy, from London at rush hour - ewwwww. At the end of a long, tired day...

You'll also get a heap more work done in first class - or kick back and enjoy the journey. Not sure if your TOC are good or bad with refreshments, but FGW have a tea trolley full of comps and certainly used to have free wine on a Friday night. Sometimes, fellow travellers would bring their own wine or champagne. It was quite a party :-)

Leicester to London is painful and expensive. £145 return on the peak trains plus £13 parking, c6.37am that gets in just after 8am. Same train leaves Nottingham about 20 mins earlier I think. A friend in the village commutes from Long Buckby (Northamptonshire) daily instead, £60 return, no parking charges, same times for the journey and about the same time to get to as it takes me to get into the city centre station. Worth plotting out options.

I'd suggest East Midlands Parkway but I bet it takes longer to get back into Nottingham than it does to get back from London.
