Plusnet does phone line £14.99 and internet £2.99 a month.

Get a personal loan of £1500 and pay off in 12 months. This should tie you up until the tax office reclass you.

If you want to....your mobile contract.....get a sim only with all you can eat data and get rid of BT and internet. Use the mobile phone as the hub and surf the net from there.

This is all I can add to the info you have received so far.

  • It would give us, and you, a proper idea of your financial situation, if you posted an SOA.

house insurance 21.82 up for renewal and this is what company quote was 20.20

Your landlord should be paying the buildings insurance. My contents insurance is only £110 a year for full cover, so shop around.

Best thing to do is fill in a complete SOA - found here - http://www.stoozing.com/calculator/soa.php. Also start keeping a spending diary so you can account for every single penny.

From what you've posted so far my comments are as follows:

*Pet Insurance - How many animals is this for? Insurance for our dog is £9 a month
*House insurance - is this contents only? Our contents insurance is £7.69 per month. Get on the comparison sites and get a better deal.
*Once your phone contract ends get on a rolling sim only deal. A collegue of mine got one recently for £7.50 per month with plenty of allowance.
*Start paying BT again and ask them to refund you you're credit. This can then be put towards clearing your overdraft. Or leave the credit and put the £19 towards the overdraft.
*Check if you could get AA, phone ins etc cheaper elsewhere and change your account to a non fee one. My AA is £30 a year, phone covered under contents insurance. Why do you need home emergency cover if you are in rented accomodation? This is something the landlord would be responsible for having.

So fill in the full SOA. Don't try and fix the numbers to make it add up, put in realistic figures of what you actually spend, what you actually owe and then we can help work out where amounts can be reduced, re-allocated etc.
  • I would check with council that you have any rebates in place which you may be eligible for, I get 25% off with being only adult in the household. I have just left BT for Talk Talk as I hardly use my landline but use internet so my bill will be cut from just under £50 a month to just under half, and I used a cashback site to switch so if I get a payment that will be a bonus. I have a 30 day rolling sim at £12.90 as I was putting £15 a month on PAYG. I set myself a budget of £50 a week for groceries and other household items for myself and my 2 kids, but usually don't spend much over £45. I also save up £10 per week into a savings account, this is incase I need it for any car maintenance or of a major appliance breakdown, just so I have something as a back up. I renewed my contents insurance last month and was able to get mine to just over £15 per month
Been there, done that and Ebay'd the t shirt.
  • I've just renewed our contents insurance - ours was from the AA at just under £80 for the year. I got free breakdown cover and £20 cashback. May be worth a look if you're due for renewal?

  • You seem like such a sweetie. I'm sorry you're in this unfortunate situation. I don't think I'm in a position to offer advice regarding house bills, ect since I'm still a student and have yet to experience the joys of running a house! However, I would like to say; don't neglect your social life!

You don't have to go out and you don't have to spend money. Get your friends around and ask them to bring one thing each. For example, a DVD, a bottle of wine, a cheesecake, ect. Stay in, have a gossip, watch a movie and do each others nails. I think some company and a friendly chatter would really help lift your spirits.

If your petrol allowance doesnt cover what you need to put in your car to be able to do your job phone the inland revenue. You might get more tax relief.

I believe that if your company doesn't pay a certain amount per mile for company use you can claim a top up via HMRC. Your company payroll or HR departments should be able to advise you.

Also, can you pay your TV licence on DD so it's spread over the year? We pay £12 odd per month so we don't notice it as much.

As for car tax, you used to be able to buy savings stamps at the post office, I used to get these when I got my first car... Not sure if they still do them, but putting a set amount each month into an online savings pot would be just the same.

If you did this you wouldn't feel as much pain when they're due and have to pay the lump sum

No they don't still do them, and I'd avoid paying 6 months at a time, as that will cost you more.
