help/ideas/advice please

how do people go about being a mature student?

at 45 years of age I still have 20 years to go until I can retire.

I can't face staying in the same field until then :(

I always say if I won a fair amount on the Lottery, I'd go to uni and re-train. Could there be a way to do this without the Lottery??

I'm a single parent ,school age child, not independant yet.
I have no debts but have a mortgage. Does funding/ student loans exist for people my age?

I've never been to uni, we trained "on the job" in those days.

thoughts anyone please?

If you did win the lottery, what would you train to do?

It's easier to suggest ideas if we have some idea what you want - advice for becoming an accountant isn't the same as advice for become a physicist.

You make it sounds like you are ancient, you are same age as me, and I have done BSc and a Masters in my adult life..!
  • it's a three year podiatry course I'd like to do.

didn't mean to make you feel old, no-one in my family ever went to uni.

I started nurse training at a school of nursing at 18, no experience of uni.

  • What sort of qualifications do you have at the moment? There are Access courses around which usually take a year full time, but can be done part time over two years if it's more suitable. These get you ready for uni including guiding you through application for a place. They're focused on the area you intend to go into and would be an Access to Health course if you wanted to do podiatry.

Would one of these courses be an option for you to begin with? That is, if you don't already have relevant qualifications.

Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.
  • Depends on what you want to do and what level.

There is the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan https://www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-loans for college level courses.

Would you consider becoming a podiatry assistant? That doesn't require a three year degree to get started.
