Colgate Toothpaste

I bought 4 boxes of what I thought was my usual 100ml Colgate (red box) fluoride toothpaste from a local B&M store, marginally cheaper than Tesco.

The only noticeable difference with the tubes is that they have a screw top cap instead of the usual flip top. Noticed that it was manufactured in Thailand though.

When I first start to brush my teeth with it, there's a very odd fish like smell and slight flavour that isn't normal & not quite masked by the minty smell/flavour.

Have emailed Colgate to see if they may be fakes or something. Anyone else come across this?
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

I reckon what you have bought is a product thats made for Thailand or that region and B&M have bought x amount of stock from a supplier. Same thing happens with the pound shops etc, I remember polos used to be sold in them shops and the packaging was forgein eg polish.

    Fishy toothpaste

I have had Johnson's Baby Shampoo covered in Arabic from a local convenience store.

OH came back from it last weekend with small bars of Cadbury's Bournville chocolate and I had to admit defeat because my scant knowledge of Arabic and non-existent grasp of Greek wasn't up to the challenge of working out whether it was gluten free.

He seems to have developed an intolerance to gluten and wheat so wouldn't affect him too much. But for a coeliac, picking up a cheap bar of chocolate for an export market without realising could have dire consequences.

There's nothing to stop stores stocking export stuff and selling it cheap/same price AFAIK.
  • A few years back there was some fake Colgate products that flooded the market in the UK, often found in cheaper shops like pound shops and the market, there was a major recall on them.

There is still something on the Colgate website about fakes...
