I always scan read my comping email address and only opens the ones that look like potential winners (huh, not that that happens lately:mad:)
Yesterday i received an email with the title ' you've not been opening our mails, do you still want to receive them'?
So can they tell if the mail is simply deleted without being read? if so, how?
Would this have an impact on winning comps with that company, do you think?

Depending on the software they use to manage their emails they could.
One I have access to has an admin reporting area where I can see how many emails have been opened, clicked on, or linked to social media.0 -

No worries, I use the email tools to help create more effective communications with great call to actions and ensure they go to the right people who have opted in.
Not sure if a company would use this as a way of filtering out people who arent customers and just there for the comps or not though. Depends on the budget and staffing levels of the marketing dept.0 -
I quite frequently get emails saying something along the lines of 'we've missed you. Come back by XX date and we won't remove you from subscription list' etc, but they never remove me. They always continue sending me the newsletters.February wins: Theatre tickets0

There are definitely ways to tell if you're using certain software to send the emails out, but I doubt it would have an impact on your chances of winning.
I imagine the majority of newsletters are never opened but are just deleted, even by genuine customers. It's unlikely it would be the same person administering the competition as sending out the newsletter anyway, and even if it was, I've never seen one which makes reading (as opposed to signing up for) their newsletter a condition of entry!0 -
I usually scan emails by using the reading pane in Outlook, so they are often read, but not opened.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

I use my iMacs separate mail which means I can mark all as read. I don't know if that actually shows you've read it or not though? If i have time i tend to just click one and scroll up. That opens them all
Maybe invest in a separate mail 'thing' so you can do that.

I worked in a company for about a year that sent mass mail out and the manager had software which could see who had opened the mail. (They used it for statistics, but I know they could look at individual email)0
