gas electric standing charge rip off

I used u switch to get a better price, they claimed I would save £30.88 a year going with EDF after many months I sent a reading only to find out I was charged £89 in standing charges, as n power did not at that time have a standing charge “January 2013”. I was not impressed by u switch claim I was saving money and not making it clear I would be £180 worse off as a standing charge was added on.
A standing charge is, EDF Energy Team Manager Chisoni Nyoni, for maintaining gas pipes, cables and meter reading once every two years.
Question to him, do you employ men to do the work, no. do you employ people to read meters, no.
These companies are buying gas and electricity in bulk and selling it to us for profit, no complaint there.
The standing charge to maintain pipes and cables which they do not do and have control over is just another form of tax, which they keep.
As these companies have no outlay in maintaining pipes and cables, this is just another rip off.
