Kicking a sleeping dog??

Hi there...
I am currently working my way through a fair amount of debt and trying to slowly rebuild a shattered credit rating. I think that I am fairly in control of it though to be honest, it is only in the last few months that I have got serious. Anyway, if trawling through my credit file a week or so ago, I saw a default on it from a payday loan company, who I used several years ago. I may be being exceptionally dull brained here (I am not great at understanding anything about money at all, other than how to spend it... ) but I do remember settling this one in a Full & Final settlement.. which I thought would have put paid to the debt/default.

Now, my query is this.. this company hasn't contacted me in any shape or form for 2.5 years. Given that I won't be really free of consumer debt for approx 3 years... should I just let this default tick down? If I contact them, in anyone's experience, are they likely to start hassling me again. I have changed jobs, phone numbers and bank accounts since then ( but not address) and I really don't want this dog to start barking again...

If anyone has any thoughts I would really welcome them.

Thanks in advance

C

As you offered a full and final, presumably you missed a payment, i.e. incurred a default. Not sure what grounds you would have for getting it removed.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
  • Hi
Thanks for the reply. You see, thats what I meant about being dull brained on the money front.. I had naively assumed that the default wouldn't be recorded if they went for a full & final. I guess that isn't correct?

Usually a default it registered before they will consider accepting a reduced F&F.
However if its negotiated at the same time, then yes it would be usual a default would be entered.

Importantly - does the credit file show that there is no balance outstanding on the account?

  • It shows balances.. thats what first got me thinking about it.. it was a debt I hadn't got on my spreadsheet, so I was surprised to see it there.

  • As Tixy says, what's the balance show for the account on your credit report?

  • Kick a sleeping dog ????? what a vile expression

  • Hi Blackpool Saver... apologies, it wasn't my intention to offend.

The subject line is merely a colloquial spin on the phrase, let sleeping dogs lie... I can assure you I have never kicked any of my 3 dogs, although I did once clip the Stafford with my foot but she does insist in lying on the stairs. In addition I have never flogged any of my horses, dead or otherwise.. nor have I ever fried a fish.

I have though, been vegan for over 10 years, never wear leather or any other animal related product, don't use any product that is tested on animals, actively support PETA and have in the past year eliminated any product which uses Palm Oil in any shape or form due to the impact that the intensive deforestation caused by the Palm industry, has on the habitat and native species of most of Indonesia.. particularly Orang-outangs, because they are just so cute, y'know? It is fair to say that I go above and beyond the norm when it comes to animal welfare.

In fact one of the reasons I have never posted my SOA despite being on several occasions being desperate for help is because I am worried how the good folk on debt forums would react to the £500 / £600 a month I spend on my animals and animal related charities.
I am so pleased, that having finally plucked up the courage to ask a question on a forum board, the best you can come up with is to suggest that I am vile. Thanks for that. Its the sort of judgemental nonsense I had been led to believe did not occur on this forum. You may be a vegetarian ( oh by the way.... have you seen how they treat dairy cows... why be half hearted.. become a vegan if you are serious) and a woman but I doubt very much you are a humanitarian.

Thank you to the other folk who answered, that was appreciated. But I will now go back to sorting things out myself... stopping only occasionally to stomp on a kitten or throw rocks at ducks. Thank you & good night!
