I am facing court action and I need some help from you, thank your for reading this post.
I have become in some difficulties ( I am dixclic, as if you cant tell)
I get £71.70 per week JSA
out of it they take £3.60 PW for council tax arrears
so I get
Income £68.10 per week!
This is what I have to pay out!
Water rates £6.73 per week
Council tax £14.23 per week
Gas about £10 per week
Electric about £10 per week
phone internet £17.50 per month
Food about £25 per week
Travel about £5 per week
Council tax arrears £3.60 per week
Rent arrears £3.75 per week
Dog food about £3 per week
looking after my child on the weekends about £7.50 per week
some other payments if and when I can
Total out is about £83.31
Total in take away out about = -£15.21
now water rate arrears have built up to about £400 and I cant afford to pay it all as I have no money left.
SBC are taking me to court to evict me for drinking water. I emailed SBC and said
they don't supply me with water so why should I pay them!
if it was a service charge then sure its for a service but I don't have a contract with them to pay my water rates to them!
I don't pay them for my internet so why should I pay them for the water I drink!
Thames water say I should pay them unless I pay SBC, but there is no law that says I should pay them.
Today I got a letter from a (text removed by MSE Forum Team) of SBC, in it he says, to look at legislation covering secure council tenancies HOUSING ACT 1985. I had a look and no where dose it say I should pay SBC water rates.
He go's on to say my water rates are £6.73 per week and the debt of £439.39. the minimum weekly amount expected from me is £15 per week this amount is to cover the water rates and arrears!
where dose he think I can get £15 per week from! I asked shelter in slough to help and they said they are to busy to take on my case.
SBC says its in my agreement to pay water rates to them. if the water rates were in my name I could get a grant and the rates could be zeroed.
They are tiring to evict me for drinking water! water rate arrears are a civil matter!

You really should have had a grip on your outgoings, and knew that the water rates were not getting paid but that doesn't help you now.
One thing you can and may have already done is pick up the phone and speak to them. Most companies understand people may struggle to pay and most are happy to arrange an alternative payment strategy.
The court case has come about because you have either refused to pay or have been ignoring the letters they send you. Neither option fixes your situation, only makes it worse!
You should be able to pay a small amount each month / week on top of the £6. So maybe offer to pay, £10 per month / week.
By doing the above, the amount owed would go down slowly, but they are still getting their money.
Pretty sure if you offer to pay them £1 a month / week they have to accept but not 100% so don't quote me! Might be too late for this though with the court case.0 -

That was my first thought, but as OP already seems to be in receipt of all the relevant benefits my next suggestion of the Benefits board doesn't seem appropriate either.
OP, I suggest you contact Shelter for advice regarding your possible eviction.

You need to cut your expenses or increase your income - that's the only long term solution for you.
As far as the short term goes, you will need to engage in dialogue with the council and do a deal with them. I'm sure they would help you and come up with a plan if you asked them.0
