Northern Rock - change rate of APR ?

Hi,
I took out a £3k loan with northern rock last year paying back £78/pm. When I arranged the loan - the call handler said I could call back to ask for a different rate of Interest. Has this ever happened to anyone else - and have they got a better interest rate???
Also, they advised I took out loan protection. I wasnt happy to do this really but she seemed to be insistent that I did. Can I cancel this loan protection now???
