Dell slow.

Can anyone tell me if dell are usually slow with orders? I ordered a week last Saturday (19th) and it is still showing in pre production. They had an estimated date if delivery as 31st but obviously that's not going to happen now. Customer services told me a part had to be ordered in. I don't understand why they didn't have that part already and even if not why they couldn't email me to let me know there would be a delay.

Dell ship a large amount of very different systems so I find their delivery times vary, I've had machines delivered in under a week, some have taken a month or so when it's been a popular machine or one of the components I've chosen is in short supply.
