Argue the fact that it's a design flaw. If you havent dropped the phone in water then the interior water sensor will not have changed and that proves that it's standard air moisture that's caused it.

saw this too late -- decent info for anyone else with same problemo.
  • I wonder should I write a letter of complaint to Apple -- should someone here be able to confirm that the cocky Apple guy I met who claimed the techs could see "old liquid" down one side of the inside of the phone is bull?
  • iPhones come apart very easily. They COULD have taken it apart and seen water marks inside. There is an additional internal water sensor btw, not just the one in the sim tray.

    Coughed up £209.
The 'genius' looked perplexed when I told him ...

Considering the non-apple definition of a genius is doing 4 standard deviations from average intelligence, it doesn't bode well for the human race. I'm surprised we invented shoes let alone shoelaces let alone tie them...

Lightening socket on iPhone 5 is soldered direct to mainboard, unlike good old iphone 4 where it had a connecter. Looks like latest Apple range is more landfill than previous designs.

At least someone has come up with an anti-landfill phone

Though I will say that the iPhone 4 has been cheap to have repaired, eg son had new screen fitted £35, I had new Home button+battery £25.

Just checked my facts and it's the iPad lightening connector thats soldered on, seems the iPhone one is removable after all and the iPhone 5 gets a fixability rating of 7/10 on ifixit.
  • Just one thought, has anyone thought of complaining about the case? If a case is designed to protect the phone but actually damages it should it not be pointed out to them?

It worked for me with an iPhone 4. I had to argue them down but it worked eventually. I am an Apple fan, and have the Mac, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, but their customer service in this country is crap. they do play ball though when you make a scene in their stores at busy times
