Financial Association - Will this be a problem?

Hi,
My partner and I are not married but have two kids, this time last year we went for a mortgage and despite being upfront regarding some debt my partner had we were offered a DIP and to cut a long story short - got an offer accepted but the mortgage offer was refused based on my parters debt. At the time we tried for it in my own name but they refused based on my partners debt.
Fast forward to the current day, I've managed to save about £5K and next month will have £6K - I'm looking at a mortgage of £85K to £90K so should have enough for a 5% deposit and the associated fees.
My partner continues to pay off her debt, we took the decision that she would manage that and I'd handle sorting out a mortgage in my own name - in a few years when her debt is settled we'll include her in the mortgage when her debt is settled.
Four months ago we cancelled our joint account with a hope to remove the financial association that we have and increase the chances of me getting the mortgage in my own name. Last week I got a credit report from Equifax which shows perfect but the financial assocation with my partner shows - will this be a problem, is there a way to remove it?
I understand that ideally we should use the small savings to clear my partners debt and save together, but as my daughter will be going to school next August, we'd like to buy local to the school soon and get settled ahead of this. Both of our kids are in a private nursery in the area we look to buy.
Thanks in advance, this really is a great forum.
