  • Thank you both.

Not good regarding the car :( it'll cost more to get through the MOT than it's worth (or in fact has cost to date - including purchase). However, in testament to my new attitude my only concern was if it was dangerous and thankfully it wasn't for day to day use. So its going off to the scrap yard. but it's not the end of the world. In the 31 months we've had it, it's been a great car and has cost around £800 in purchase and maintenance costs, looking at it that way it's much less than car finance would be.

Fortunately DH has enough set aside for a cheap run around to cover the next couple of years so we're still on track and I'm still in my happy bubble. He's even found a couple that'll be suitable already so I'm feeling quite excited about getting a new car even if I do have to say goodbye to the old one that I love so much...must work harder to keep this one clean and tidy ;)

Kate your situation with the car is pretty much where we found ourselves a few months back - MrEH's sailed through its MoT but came out with a long list of advisories from service - when we added up the rough cost of addressing them all we decided it wasn;t worth it so we looked about - found a replacement same model, just 2.5 years newer, (55 plate) low mileage for age (the old one was over 160,000 miles!) and we negotiated to get it for 2k plus the other car, which was less than our budget, so all happy.

Glad to hear the Vitamin D deficiency thing has finally been discovered - but why on EARTH had nobody ever noticed this when you've had blood tests before?!! Baffling! (And infuriating!)

  • Well! Not an awful lot going on here! DH replaced my car and after lots of guilt for him spending money I got over it - only the last day or so though but anyone who has been reading my diary for the last 6 months knows we're not in the greatest of places right now. Things are continuing to improve but I'm still not keen to rock the boat.

Old car is now sat off the road while we debate what to do. One thing is definite. Car and number plate are being sold separately. It has a private plate and recent valuations have been upwards of £4-500! More than the car is worth! What we do after that remains to be decided.

In money news it all went wrong last week :( I switched insurance to new car and was told the payment would be £3 in June. Great...or so I thought... turns out they also took the "old" payment of £38. Expecting to be a little better off I booked a massage to help my healing through Groupon rationalising that I'd not really touched my entertainment budget. So in fact I was nearly £60 worse off not the £23 better off that I expected :( and with the SC payment about to go out. Cue lots of panic and upset as you can imagine. All other money got eaten up by the failed MOT cost, DD1's prom ticket and three prescriptions.

So I did what I would advise others, I called SC. Admittedly I was in a blind panic but thwy have amended this months DD to half (which I'm not happy about at all - I WANT TO PAY THIS DEBT OFF!) and reassured me. I will make up the payment when I get the refund from the insurance company (phoned bank and they were a nightmare! Had to explain what the DD Guarantee is ). I even tried to cancel the Groupon massage but couldn't :(

All a small hiccup in the grand scheme of things but I feel really stupid for falling down on month two of my DMP. Its made me a lot more focused though to avoid similar in thw future and even more determined to get shot of the debt asap.

As I couldn't get my refund I went for the massage (after I'd sorted out everything else) and it's helped immensely. The ladies in the salon were lovely and even at full price they are half what I uses to pay for hair or body treatments. Theyve certainly earned a new customer and a lot of recommendations!

So I've spent today checking I have all my paperwork up to date, ive finished watching The Good Wife and I'm up to date with Game of Thrones. Even managed to get the dining room looking good and slightly moved around - must be time to go back to work if I'm THIS bored ;) speaking of which, I'm back off to work on 20th and actually looking forward to it. I've had a lot of time to think and plan for the next few months to get where I want to be in the long term and now I'm feeling better I don't see anything to stop me. If I can sort out this mess I'm in then I really can do absolutely anything :)

Sounds like the massage really was well worth its money, and if it came from the entertainment budget anyway...no more beating yourself up over it, ok?!

Definitely a good plan to sell the number plate separately from the car - a car with a private plate keeps its old registration quietly in the background in any event doesn't it...just check with the DVLA if there are frees to swap it over though, I have a feeling there's a fee one way or the other, but it might be when you put the private plate on the car only, if you see what I mean.

What are your options with the old car? Standard scrappie, or sell for bits on eBay?

  • Another week gone and still living in peace :)

Nothing debt-related to report. The reduced SC payment has kept life in the black and ticking over. I had an all time record of only NINE MINUTES on hold before I spoke to a human being to renew tax credits :D and I've finally remembered to update quidco and PayPal account details. Planning a wardrobe clear out for me and the kids this weekend and hopefully shift some of it on eBay.

Heading back into work on Tuesday. I'm doing a slow phased return so won't be full time for a month but I'm happy with the plan. I feel like I'm ready. The healing and activity levels are improving every day - in fact I haven't even touched a crutch today yet :D

DD1 has her last ever full day in school uniform today so I'm making the most of what will probably be my last full day alone. Got all the itty bitty admin jobs done and now relaxing with a movie I've never seen (which isn't all that good ;))

Took myself out for my first post op social event last night, just a slimming world meeting but it was nice to get out. I'm still in range of target so it was a free night out and refocused my eating habits which have, admittedly, become attrotious. I'm already feeling a little better for going back to "normal" eating.

So that's me, happily plodding along with life, enjoying each precious moment and grateful to be free of the stress of my past mistakes.
