Wrong train ticket purchase

Hello,
I booked a train ticket with Anglia Railways yesterday.
I selected a return ticket by choosing two single tickets, both advance tickets, outward this Saturday, return on Monday. I clicked through to pay, put in my card details and when I checked my email it showed details for a single ticket for Sunday.
Now, I confess that, when I clicked through to payment, I don't know if it transferred the details properly, so at that point I should have checked and if it was wrong not pay. But I was distracted and didn't even think that could happen.
I emailed them straight away (within 20 minutes of purchase) to explain and request to change the details of travel.
They have replied today saying no, as the ticket is non-refundable and unchangeable and that is what I booked (which would show it as that on their system, even though that's not what I requested on the first window).
Do I have any rights to cancel if I do so immediately? Or are there any other options to me? Or do I have to accept that I've wasted £40? (I can't change my travel to come back on the ticket I don't want.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I should have also said that when I realised the error and checked the website, the cost online of the ticket I accidentally purchased was £21, and the charge on mine was £40.50, and there was definitely an error somewhere as I wouldn't have been charged as much as I have been if I'd chosen that train. (hope that makes sense...)0

Suggest you read this:
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/ticket_types/46546.aspx
you might be able to change the date of travel.
To be blunt you appear to have got what you booked:-ramblingtree wrote: »Now, I confess that, when I clicked through to payment, I don't know if it transferred the details properly, so at that point I should have checked and if it was wrong not pay. Oh accidentally deleted my reply... Anyway, thanks for the link. The issue is that as I selected print your own ticket, its non-refundable or possible to change. I completely understand I should have checked, but I also don't understand why they have charged me £40.50 for an advance single, when that exact ticket is advertised at £21. I at least would like a refund of the different so my mistake is charged correctly!0

£40.50 sounds like the return price you should have been charged - £21 one way and £19.50 the other at a guess. Not even sure that £40.50 is a valid price for one single ticket. (I'm guessing at the route as you don't say)
I'm wondering if your e-mail is incomplete and should actually be for two journeys
Moral is NEVER allow yourself to get distracted when doing online transactions - it's a recipe for disaster and you don't really have any rights, particularly where travel is concerned.0 -
I know! And I do blame myself for not checking. I just also thought that if you contacted someone within a certain time you were allowed to cancel... But I'm obviously incorrect on that.
I've waiting for them to get back to me on the price, It's Diss to London, £40.50 is none of the prices listed. I'd rather have wasted £21 than £40.50.0 -
I guessed Norwich but I'm pretty sure Diss fares are the same - which makes the £21 plus £19.50 plausible
It is worth chasing in this event0 -
I thought that UK law made it a requirement that anything bought or paid for online could be cancelled within 14 days?0

You're thinking of the distance selling regulations. The time in question is seven days after receipt of the goods, and as dzug1 says, services such as train tickets, hotel bookings etc are excluded
From http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/distance-selling-regulations/#link-2
But there are some contracts you can’t cancel simply because you change your mind, including:- contracts for transport and some leisure services to be provided on a specific date eg hotel bookings, flights, car hire, concert and other event tickets

Give up on this one.
Even a goodwill gesture is out of the question as you chose to print your own ticket (you can see the opportunity for abuse here!)0
