Homemade Piccalilli, no mustard powder

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows if I can use normal english mustard instead of powder to make piccalilli? I would like to make some for myself and as Xmas gifts. I went to Morrisons yesterday and could not bring myself to buying it as it was so expensive. I thought that maybe I could just try using the normal mustard in a jar.
Thanks in advance

normal mustard isn't strong enough by itself instead of mustard powder, you'd need at least double quantities. it's about £1.37 in asdas? what mustard powder are you looking at?
but I suppose two or three jars of mustard would do it....

Thanks taff. Morrisons only had Colemans and it was nearly £3 a tin. Haven't got an Asda close enough so I might have to check Tescos.

and you can use the powder in others things - sprinkle onto potatoes before roasting, putting into cauliflower or macaroni cheese. You can even sprinkle it into your bath if you have heavy cold :D

I think tescos is £1.34 at the moment....I used this recipe before and again this year. It really is a step up...but it does need 80g [although it is massive quantities, I made about 12 jars and 5 of them were 1lb jars - I also used a lot of mange tout in it - on offer :)] and the smaller tin is 57 g. You could do one tin of pwder and one jar, or something like that, or if you're going to use it as above, 2 tins are fine too.

We use mustard powder in plasters for arthritis. Human & cat. Extra bonus is the cat no longer tries to lick the mix off...
