Allowed to post answers to comp?

Options
I recently posted the answer & email address for a competition and very promptly recieved a private message asking me not to reveal the answer as noone will visit the page & defeats the purpose of the competition. Now from my experience and all the compeitions i see and enter the majority has the answer and whereby you are required to email also has the email address. As this one didn't i thought i was helping out by adding it on. I was doing the right thing, wasn't I? Or was this person right in asking me not to reveal the answer?

Thank you

there's a list of sites that have requested we don't put answers/questions on for here in the comping guide..
& we have to respect the wishes for them x

    sorry, forgot to say,

if it was a site that's not on the list for not wanting their answers/etc put on MSE we usually pm VelvetGlove to let her know the site owner/comp site doesn't want their answer/s posting & velvetglove will add it to the list for us :)

I don't know who it was who pm'd you obviously but please, if it was the site owner it needs to be added to the list so we don't make the mistake of doing anything wrong xxx

thanks, sorry we cross posted while I was still typing :o

oh I see, if it's not the site owner requesting we don't post the answer/etc then in my humbles if it was me I would pm the person back who asked you not to do & find out the reason why as it should be known in case others do the same,
if they have permission from the site owner not to request we post or how do they know the site does/doesn't want them posted,
it would still in my opinion need to be put on the list :)

What Firefly said - but also just to add that no you didn't do anything wrong. In fact I would say you've handled it perfectly. We do post comps and answers unless we know that the comp host doesn't want us to. So you were right to post the comp with answers. Then when you were asked not to reveal the answers you came here and checked what to do about it.

So thank you for dealing with it so well :T

I also received a similar PM recently. The sender gave no details of the website to which he was referring, nor his position to make such a request. I replied that we would be happy to comply with a legitimate request, but that I post comps for hundreds of sites and he must make clear the site name and what authority he has to make such a request. I am still awaiting a reply!
