Equidebt/Pay Day UK confusion

Hi all,

I fell into the PD Loan trap, but have managed to climb out and have taken control of my finances finally (reduced debt from £14,000 to £3,000 so far :j ). However, I have one sticky debt that I'm struggling with. I owed £700 to Pay Day UK. I was in a mess where 3 different companies were taking money straight from my bank so I closed my account, opened with a different bank, waited for the debts to go to debt collectors and set up payment plans. All was going well and I was down to £390 paying at £40 a month to Equidebt.

Then I received a letter saying Equidebt had gone into administration and a new company was taking over the debt. At the time I was moving house and I seem to have lost the letter from them. Since then, I have checked my credit file and it seems that the company (the new one) haven't taken a payment. I want to pay it off, but if I ring Pay Day direct, they will take my card details and take the full amount in one go, which I can't afford as it will mess up my other payments. So far today I've contacted Cabot, Accent and Marston - has anyone any ideas as to which company could have bought my debt? Pay Day UK won't say, they want to take the full amount instead.

Any help would be gratefully received. I've tried calling Equidebt but they have closed their offices now.

How long since the last payment to equidebt?

Is your credit file updated for you new address? if so chances are the new creditor will write to you again soon.

Presumably your credit file doesn't show this account in a new debt collectors name?

Alternatively if you do phone up payday uk then just refuse to give them your card details, and you could ask them for their bank details to set up a standing order instead at a rate you can afford.

  • The last payment to them was September. My credit file is up to date. Hope they do write soon, I want to get everything paid up as quickly as possible. The only info on the file about the debt company is MEM which turned out to be another name for Pay Day UK.

I tried calling PDUK but they are really pushy and try to force your details from you. I called them from my friends house once and they asked if that was my number. I said no, but they still try to call me on that number now and again!!!
