Some of you being a bit harsh with @Keirsozzy1. He was trying to be logical and thought he had a point. Even if the logic was syllogistic

I do know of people who are or have worked in China without speaking any of the languages, but as you have suggested, all of them were teaching, either TEFL or in International schools where the language in use was English anyway. I can't really see what demand there would be for non-Chinese speakers in any other field unless you have a very specific and rare skill.

It may be that by doing TEFL that you can earn money that way and concentrate on getting your mandarin fluent - being in a country can make all the difference to getting fluent. then you could apply for other posts

You may think now that teaching is not your thing, but I know people who have gone to China straight after graduating from university and have enjoyed the experience. The advantages for you are 1) you have contacts to help you get a job 2) your maths degree and 3) you speak Mandarin. For point 3, I think you should take the time to improve your language skills.

Do you know how long the teaching post is for?

How about working for a big American company (MS, IBM, etc) where maybe you'll have to speak decent but not necessarily first-language Mandarin?

Is this the thread that started off about not being able to speak Mandarin?
So who's who? Is the OP confused? Or are they now pretending to be a another poster defending 'themselves'???
