I am in the process of setting up xbox live (for the kids
) and its asking for my hotmail email address.
I just wanted to check how secure this was. I dont want the kids accessing my email account or being able to change the data.
I would also prefer not to set up a new account which I use once a year (and then forget the password)
Presume several of you have been through this so would be grateful for some guidance.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure you can't access the email account via the console so wont be able to change anything. It wants to know the email address so it can link the console with the hotmail account.
Make sure you set the parental settings ( if you want of course ).0 -
Now I know you've said you'd "prefer not to set up a new account" etc, but I think that's the best & most sensible way to do it here. While I don't think they can directly access your e-mail through Xbox Live what does happen is you tend to get regular e-mails notifying you of offers etc. I think I get one maybe every fortnight or so & notification of the major releases - which at this time of year come pretty much weekly. If anything registering a second account gives the kids a place they can keep "up to date" with what's going on without bugging you.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

And dont forget, if you regiter a credit card with them then they will auto renew and allow the kids to buy DLC on it.
Register using a xbl card etc instead.0 -
And the family account system is being knocked on the head. Everyone has their own account that will have to be renewed each year. V pricey if you've got a lot of kids who want their own account.0

There is definitely no way to access the hotmail email account from the xbox live dashboard. Technically they could use internet explorer to access hotmail from the dashboard, but they would need the password just like on a pc.
If you're going for a gold account then don't be tempted by the £39.99 the dashboard offers. You can get it for less than £30 buying from retailers online, some of which will send you the key instantly.0 -
Cheers for all the responses and putting my mind at rest.
Will keep an eye out for a deal on gold on here or ukhd.
Will probably also use my email addy for simplicity. Already get enough junk that a couple more emails wont make a difference.0
