i did the switch online three months ago and assumed the money had gone in, however when i checked last week i found it hadnt so i phoned them to ask. and was told that as i hadnt closed my old account the money wasnt paid in (and i wasnt going to get it) now i also thought that the seven day switch included transfering my wages and debits over into a new account and the closure of my old account (all carried out by them)as i remember i signed a form to that effect .
my first months wages were not paid into halifax but all my debits were which resulted in me getting nasty letters from my mortgage company and others luckily my old account at this time hadnt been closed so i was able to transfer my wages across into the halifax account (thats the only time its been used since). and my morg etc, got paid
consequently i am very unhappy with the treatment i have recieved from the halifax over this and unsure where to go next
any advice welcome.

The "7 day switch" didn't launch until last month IIRC, so I don't know how you/they managed that?

At that time (3 months ago), Halifax wouldn't know whether your old account was closed or not.

If you remain unhappy you should make a complaint. Details in the correspondence Halifax sent you, and also on their website.

ok sorry i looked for the origional offer on the net and found the seven day switch so i thought it was the same ,
the fact is the offer of £100 for switching was available three months ago and after reading about it on MSE I applied i now feel very angry and that ive been stuffed by the bank who have my business, obviously i will be complaining (ultimately writing to the ombudsman) i would just like advice on the best course of action to take.
nb i was put through to halifax complaints and spoke to a lovely lady called kirsty who said she was going to change the decision as she felt it was wrong and that £100 would be deposited that was seven days ago!
    again sorry for the confusion

You've already taken it, by making a formal complaint.

Sit back and wait for your money.

However, if they have logged your call as a formal complaint you should have received a "we're looking into it" letter after 5 days. If this doesn't arrive by next Wednesday, maybe you should call again and speak with "Kirsty" to nudge things along.

ring them and ask for one. Re-register your complaint if necessary.

Are you sure you completed the whole thing?

Is your old account still open for instance. If it's still open then maybe you didn't finish the application properly?

I received £100 for "switching" an account even though the old account is still open. Under the old switching system there was no automatic closure process and AFAIK, no condition that the old account was closed.

It would be foolhardy to do so on an old account with various incoming credits (eg dividends, pensions, etc.) because there was no process for forwarding payments on (there is now), so you'd probably end up out of pocket (at least in the short term).
