Mortgage for Intl. Students? Possible?

Hi everybody,

First thanks for all the provided informations and useful threads!
I don't know if it's a good place to ask this or not. I'm an international students (PhD) which entered UK last october and my study lasts for at least 3 years. My wife is also a student and her studies take at least 5-6 years. After that I intend to work here and stay more if possible.
I'm thinking of buying a house and get a mortgage instead of paying rent. well, for example, a 170,000 £ house. My deposit is around 50,000 £. So I'm thinking of paying 30% of the house price and get a 120,000(70%) mortgage for the rest. I don't have problem to payback (family support, working here part time..)
However, it seems it's not applicable for my case as far as I know that I have to be a resident first. So could anybody help me :

1- Is there anyway that I can find mortgage? even one with higher rates?

2- I've heard that some people(broekers mainly) can get mortgage in my name by showing the main lender for example that I work for a company and have sallary or something like that ... is it legal or not? anybody know anything?

Very much thanks.

Deceiving a lender is not a good idea.

Since you are not a permanent resident and you dont
relavant earnings mortgage provider will not give you one.

Perhaps, a mortgage broker should be approached for confirmation if you are eligible.

    Thanks GmanNL,

However thinking going to ask some lenders directly and discuss the case could be a good idea, maybe the amount of deposit I have could help.
