Washing machine temperature

I have just had to clean out a lot of mould from the rubber rim of my washing machine. I've never had a problem with this happening before and just thought that this was one of those things. However, I'm beginning to wonder if my washing machine isn't heating the water on the hotter cycles which has caused the mould to form as I tend to do at least one hot wash a week for towels and sheets.
Can anyone help me work out how to test to see if it is getting to temp? I've just done a 90c wash and felt the glass in the door a few times when it was running and the glass didn't feel hot. Could it just be that I wasn't testing at the right time?
Thanks

Run a hotwash (90) once a month with nothing in the machine.
With sheets etc in the machine the hot water and steam can't get to the rubber seal.0 -
According to tests carried out by "Which?" many machines do not reach the displayed temperatures.
Twelve machines, for instance, were tested on a supposed 60 degree wash and eight out of the twelve failed to reach that temperature. In addition, most machines kept the water cooler than 50 degrees for 70 per cent of the wash.
I don't know if this will help with your problem, but I have had problems with mould building up in the fabric softener compartment of the drawer. I have reduced the amount of fabric softener I use and topped up this compartment with vinegar. It's certainly made a difference.0
