OMG I cannot BELIEVE it. It was our IFA who did the home insurance for us when we did our new mortgage through him. It's been around £40 since then. I have just gone to a comparisons website, and got lots of quotes so I have an idea how much I stand to save, and the cheapest that has come back is one payment of £25.42 and then 10 more payments of £13.25. WHAT THE HEY! I wonder if I can cancel my current policy and change. Looking into that tomorrow.

Thanks Alex. Yes, if I drive like a nutter I can get 375 miles, but I have become addicted to eeking every bit I can out of the car and can get 450 if I never use the air con (I make sure I am on econ and if it flicks onto air con I get angry!!), and I drive slowly and smoothly. It was hard because I like speed, but now I love seeing how much I can get back from my car. It's a 2l tdi golf. The car is 04 (so nearly 10 years old, but you wouldn't think it really).
Yes, the £80 includes electricity. April-October it's usually between 60 and 70 a month. October to April it can be up to £100 a month. I do monthly meter readings, and have been with U/W for about 6 years now. In our old house we were on gas through them as well, and the average monthly for everything then was something like £110.November 1st 2013

I can save about £8 a month on my car insurance... not a lot but that's actually adding in a courtesy car and lowering my voluntary excess from the stupidly high £500 that it is now to £250. Not a lot but every little helps.November 1st 2013

One of them would be about a £7 saving but would also include breakdown cover, so I'd save £9 on a breakdown cover as well.November 1st 2013
