I'm on Energy Online Aug 14, and thought this was a fixed rate.
Today I've received a letter saying the rates will increase by 14.6%.
How can this be?

Either it was only the discount was fixed off a variable standard (eg, 6% off the standard tariff but if the standard tariff rises you pay 6% off the new prices.)
Or you are confusing a change in your direct debit instalment with a price change (don't be insulted if obviously that isn't the problem - there are regular posts from customers with just such a misunderstanding).0 -
(Yes, as far as I can see, the Energy Online products are variable and only offer a 3% or 4% discount from the standard tariff.)0

Thanks, time to switch then!0

Note that if you have just received this notice then you can choose a new supplier and maintain the original prices until after the switch has gone through. As the switch can take six or eight weeks this is useful. You have to tell your supplier you are exploiting this right.0

We are on Energy on line January 14.
A few days ago, I received an email from npower, stating -Thank you for paying for your gas and electricity by Direct Debit. We just wanted to confirm a change to your payment amount and/or payment date. We've worked out your payment amount to take into account your future gas and electricity use and any outstanding balance. Please check the details below and let us know if anything is incorrect. Your Monthly payment amount will be £107.00.
We have actually been paying that amount for the last six months after we had a steep increase in electricity usage.
I took a look at my last statement on line, and that said something about the direct debit going up to £129 a month .
Unfortunately, I can't remember why.
I tried phoning npower, but was getting cut off after 18 minutes of waiting.
And their site has been down for the last two days.
Can't imagine why.
emails are taking 10 days to be replied to.
So they say.
I am still waiting.
Now would be too soon to change supplier without getting charged a penalty fee, wouldn't it?

I'm also on the Energy Online Aug 14 tariff from nPower. I was gobsmacked to receive the letter telling me about the price rises. I had switched to the rate in May this year believing it to be a fixed rate, and even received an email telling me the type of payment was "Monthly Fixed Direct Debit". Looks like the payments are fixed until they change! As a Chartered Engineer I'm not known for being thick, so do feel I have been somewhat misled here...0

Even on a transparently named variable tariff the monthly direct debit payment option is called a monthly fixed direct debit by all suppliers.0
