Bring cash from Ireland to UK

I am traveling to Ireland this week and my parents are giving me a cash gift towards my wedding.

What is the cheapest and most effective way for me to bring this back to the UK and ultimately into my UK bank, considering a) commission charges and b) loading of the foreign exchange rate/poor exchange rates.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Will you be bringing Euros or Pounds?

I am assuming because you mention exchange rates that it will be in Euros.
Cash is a bad idea (especially if it is a large sum) - it might be better for your parents to send the money via an International payment from their account to yours.
Your IBAN and BIC numbers will be somewhere on your bank statement.

Is there anything for the wedding you could pay for in euros? If you were thinking of for example going to France to get wine or whatever you could not convert the money and use it as is? Just a thought. I was given some money in euros a few years ago as a housewarming present and just chose to spend it in Ireland instead.
