I clicked the warm homes link I already have that done what other connections do you mean? going to start setting it up by direct debit when I get Christmas past.
Regarding Lidl I do think their prices have went up a lot .

The connections I was talking about were the armed forces, the police, fire service, civil service or perhaps a large factory which may have some sort of funding for those in need? If you don't want to say so in public PM me.

Lidl's prices may have gone up but a weekly shop there is still about 50% of the same in Tesco or Asda. Ok I know there are one or two things you can't get in Lidl but from experience there's a fortune to be saved. Save £25 a week on your grocery bill and that's £100 a month towards keeping you warm this winter. :)

That's a shame. The army sorted us out a few times when things were really tight.

If you do most of your shopping in Lidl though and plan your heating oil purchases then you would certainly fare a lot better. The thing is though: you mustn't dip into the fund for other things. Set up a direct debit with your preferred oil supplier. Some even give discounts for this. You're not going to see a vast benefit this winter but you will see an improvement if you manage your shopping costs better. The real help comes next summer when your direct debit keeps on building up during the warm months. Round about September would be the best time to use it all to get as much oil into your tank as you can before prices start to rise.

Of course the other alternative as I said is to bung your wee bit of savings into an internet account and join the oil club. http://www.oil-club.co.uk/

You get a lot more oil for your pound if you do this but it all depends on you leaving that money untouched until you have enough to get a decent fill.

For this winter had you thought of applying for a DSD emergency grant or loan?

Unfortunately all that money pensioners “put in” was more than spent at the time. That’s why we have the biggest national debt in Europe. I think it’s unfair to ask today’s generation to pay for the winter fuel allowance, free bus passes, television licenses etc. for pensioners today when they spent all the money at the time.
It’s not fair to ask someone now to pay for things for others, they will never receive themselves. Why should I bend over backwards paying student loans and high taxes to fund universal benefits when I have trouble heating my own house?
You can still treat people with care and respect without a universal benefit system. There are plenty of pensioners on final salary pensions (paid for again by the younger generation because the current pensioners didn’t pay enough in) who can more than afford to go without winter fuel allowance.
agree these universal benefits are crazy, i totally support genuine in need pensioners getting help to heat their homes, its a disgrace that needy pensioners cant properly heat their homes and some die because of it............ i dont agree with those who say i paid my taxes so im entitled, if you dont need help to heat your home then you shouldnt get fuel allowance and ensure the money goes to another pensioner who needs help

Going to have a look at this oil club thing ..I would be no good at putting money past because I would be dipping into it to pay other things long gone are the days when £60 got you 500lts of oil and you were not afraid to put it on.
