Hi everyone,

I spent most of the day yesterday deciding on who and what to buy for Christmas

I have Hubby, DD, DS1 and DS2, i'm not really putting a budget as such to them.

But for the others i will

My dad - £30 thinking a hamper of some sort, he is unable to get out and about by himself anymore as he has MND so was thinking:

DVD?
Pint of Socks with personalised glass
Chocolates (homemade after eights and variety of others )

But am stuck for what else?? I know he has a special mug he uses all the time so thats not an option.

Step Mum- Her birthday is Christmas Eve so need 2 presents £40 for the 2 She looks after my dad and also works as a Mackmillan Nurse. She has 2 DD of her own who look down on me so i like to get her something that looks expensive but isn't :rotfl: This is what i have come up with so far for a pamper hamper:

Black Mascara
Face Cloth (thinking maybe personalised?)
Candle
Sugar Scrub? (homemade?)
Hand Cream
Body Lotion/Butter
Socks made into sock cupcake
Small bottle of wine
Nail File
Perfume - (was thinking minis)
Eye Mask
Travel Wipes
Antibacterial Gel
Chocolate Brazils (her fave)

My Mum - £40. She likes lots of gifts as opposed to 1 big one, she comes to stay with us over Christmas. She is a machinist, looks after my nan and isn't very girly. Also likes Winnie the Pooh!

Calendar 99p

Total left £39.01

Hubbys Mum - £40 No idea what to get her! She plays World of Warcraft on her laptop, suffers with back and feet and is fulltime carer for OH nan.

Egg cup decorated by kids £1

Total left £39

Hubbys Dad - £40 He is a mechanic and loves Golf. His dog recently died.

Canvas picture of the dog £12.99

Total left - £27.01

Nans on both sides £20 each have ideas for them :T

My Best friend £10-£20 - She loves Cupcakes and dolphins, fave colour is red. She is very girly and loves Channing Tatum and Gerrard Butler. Loves candles. Is more savoury than sweet. So thought a hamper of some sort

Channing Tatum Mug £5
Channing Tatum/Gerard Butler Keyring (will make myself) Free
Pringles

Total left £5/£15

Best friends Hubby (Hubbys best friend) £10-£20 - Loves Superman. Has an MG car (:o) Loves Aftershave. NO IDEA with him!

And then their 4 chldren 1 Girl 13 (birthday is Christmas Eve so will give money for bday but pressie for christmas) Boy 13 and then 2 girls 9 and 10 They will each get £10 worth each.

So if anyone has any suggestions on what i can get please let me know. Also with Step mums hamper good but cheap toiletries :rotfl:

Thanks in advance

  • Artscow do personalised tree decoration. You put an image of your choice on. I've done pictures of special occasions or things relating to that person. They are really nice as they are but I sometimes add fine glitter or diamant!s. I'm holding out in hope they do them for $1.99 with free shipping again.

What about jigsaw puzzles with family photos on (£5 ebay) or other artscow things like coasters, glasses cloth, iPhone case etc with a family pic on.

Btw I don't work for artscow!
Best wins in 2013 £200 and Mini iPad. 2014 no wins. 2015 2 nights 5* hotel with £300 vouchers plus £1150 Harrods gift card
Rehome an unwanted prize or gift with a seriously ill child through Postpals.co.uk
  • You can get a fab gift set from Savers, it's by Montagne Jeunesse and it's £5.99 in a gift basket, with various masks (face, hair etc) as well and body stuff, they also do a cheaper version in a bag. I have bought three people a great book called 1001 Little Beauty Miracles which is on Amazon. Would your dad ever be interested in things like talking books? I don't know if you have a Pinterest account but I found that site great for ideas. I typed in diy gifts, handmade gifts etc.
I'm going to have a go at making a beer cake, you use cans of beer and scratch cards and arrange them into a two/three tiered cake and wrap with ribbon etc.

Don't know if these are helpful.
If I think of anything else I'll pop them on another message :)

My 10yo DD looking over my shoulder as I read this thread and only reading your bolded bits queried 'Is she selling family members?' :rotfl:

FTR- She wants to buy your Mum (cos she likes Winnie The Pooh) :D

What about a wheat bag for your Hubby's Mum if she suffers various aches and pains.

Do you have a Home Bargains or B&M? Both shops are fab for finding stuff that is cheaper than elsewhere and looks more expensive than it is.

I picked up a Toys R Us catalogue yesterday and there's various craft sets priced around £10 though you may find similar cheaper in the above stores.

  • I once bought an Elemis lime and ginger body scrub. It aS £38 . The following year I made my own. Find a suitable container then fill almost to the top with sea salt and sugar, mainly salt. Tip into a mixing bowl and add your choice of oil. I like sweet almond oil but it could even be olive oil if you like. Mix together until the oil covers all of the salt but not swimming in it. Add line juice and ginger extract . Your choice of amount. Then fill your container and seal. I instructions fir use are to stand in the bath while it is running, scrub/exfoliate yourself with the salt scrub. Then wallow in the bath enjoying the luxurious feel of the oils on your body. It's very relaxing and your skin feels great. Just be careful with the sloppiness of the oil on the bath

Thank you everyone, lots of good ideas!

Vikki - Louise : I used Artscow the year before last and brought step mum a tree ornament of my 3 kids on one side and her other 2 grandkids on the other and never even got a thank you!! I thought it was such a lovely gift, i personally would love it, so i was quite upset that she didn't seem to like it! :( I would get my mum something like it because her house is like a shrine to my kids :rotfl: (im an only child) but she only puts a little 3ft fibre optic tree up as she comes to us from around 21st until January so not much point in having a big tree up. I will have a look on there though for mil and my mum.

Spendless - i am afraid your DD can't have my mum she is one in a million! :D

You might be able to pick up a bargain or two from these websites:-

http://www.halfcost.co.uk free post and packing when you spend £25 just now but often on offer for £10 spend.

I've had some lovely things from this site, delivery not the fastest but still plenty time to order now for Christmas.

    http://www.johngreedjewellery.com/en/uk/john-greed/outlet-/icat/springcleanall?sort=price&order=asc&categories=springcleanall&q=*&setpagenum=1&perpage=100

This was on the grabbit board and again some lovely things, postage starts at £1.50 but sorry can't vouch for the site (yet), but worth a look.

Also utilize Boots 3 for 2 offers or their star gifts (see grabbit board for current offer) and make sure you have an advantage card and if you can shop on one of their Christmas points evenings which usually gives you £10 or £12 bonus points on a £50 shop. This offer is often online prior to events, this is the link to the Boots code thread one MSE:-

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=101 - various Christmas threads including a hamper thread you may get ideas from.

Finally the big supermarkets have the large bags of swizzle sweets, the yellow and pink bags with lollies and such, the make a great change from selection boxes for £1 with Halloween round the corner.

Asda have a good mixed selection of chocolates / sweets / biscuits on 3 for £10, the also have boxes of liquorice alsorts, jelly babies etc for £2.

Hopefully this helps and is not too over whelming.

Oh you can bulk out a hamper with a couple of cheap crackers, contents removed and refilled with say bath pearls, lip gloss, nail polish, mini perfumes, key ring, golf tees to name a few.

Try the dotcom gift shop, something for everyone there! Everything is so reasonably priced too, especially if they're in the sale section.

Just a thought for your best friends and their children, maybe you could do them a joint hamper filled with things they can do together as a family such as movie night or games night etc.
  • You could try websites like fragrance direct for make up and gift sets?
Places like B&M have a huge choice of gift sets, purfumes and christmas novelty gifts on offer now?
Supermarkets have toones of Christmassy sweets & stuff in :) Keep an eye out on the Grabbit forum on here because theres loads of people who post offers & discounts for companies which might help with the budget :)
