Wedding budget ideas

Hi,
I was just curious as to whether anyone has any personal experience or successes budgeting for a wedding? I know it can be difficult because it's a once in a life time occasion, so often people indulge and the costs spiral out of control.
I'd love to hear member's experience of budgeting?
Thanks,

Yep i did a budget. And then readjusted it cos people hear wedding and see pound nites. Cake for example: 30 quid. Wedding cake: 300 quid!
Be sensible and comprimise but dont take away from the fact its your day-somethings are worth splashing out a little extra for.0 -
Decide what you BOTH want, what you won't compromise on and what you will be flexible on.
e.g. Inflexible: date/venue/numbers
Flexible: formal/informal, traditional/simple, band/DJ/iPod, sit-down/buffet/hog-roast etc.0 -
And like all major projects, have an allowance for contingency.
So, gather all your costs together and add, say, 10% to the total.
That way, if you end up spending a little more on something you suddenly find you absolutely cannot do without, it is still within your expected budget at the end of the day.
Don't forget to negotiate with suppliers too - especially if you are getting married out of the main season. If you can even get 5% off something, it can make quite a big difference. Look out for special offers at wedding fayres - sometimes there are good offers for those who attend and who book either there and then or within a short period of time. My friend had already chosen her wedding dress but didn't buy it straight away, went to a wedding fayre the following week where that particular dress shop was having a stand, and they were offering 20% off providing purchase was made by the end of that month. £200 saved straight away!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Start looking in the sales now for bridesmaids dresses, shoes, wedding dresses, accessories etc.0
