Halifax Mortgage

Hi
I’m new to this forum so please bare with me.
I am about to applyfor a first time buyers mortgage with Halifax for the 2nd time. I applied over six months ago and was declinedfor various reasons unknown.
Both myself and mypartner earn good wages (joint income of c70k) and have a deposit of over 40k so15% or there about’s. I have a defaulton my account which is removed this coming July (after 6 years and a mishapwith a credit card when in my teens!) however my credit score with Experian isin the “Excellent” category. My partner went from self-employed to employed as adirector of his own company.
When we first applied we only had 20 – 30k deposit and mypartner didn’t have a full years worth of his accounts with his new company (hiscompany had only been running for 3 months) and the default was that little bityounger.
As I say we are about to apply again – are the banks beingmore lenient now? What are people’s recent experiences with Halifax? I’m going crazy with worry that we might getdeclined again due to this old default?
Any help / advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I went to Halifax a couple of years ago, direct into the branch with 25% cash deposit, just under a year since my IVA completed - computer says no.
