Short credit history

I've recently returned to the UK after living overseas for 7 years, which also means I've just begun a new job. I'm looking for a place to buy and would be able to put down a deposit of 65% or more. However, the banks I've approached so far have insisted that I need a UK credit history of at least 2 years (a clean credit record overseas isn't counted).

Are there any lenders that have a more flexible policy with regards to the length of credit history required (and length of employment), or do I have to resign myself to renting for a year or two?

So your after a 35% LTV mortgage....I am sure a good mortgage broker will be able to help you out there !

Could you not buy a property 35% cheaper outright and have no mortgage??

Unfortunately, I'm looking to buy in London, so there's very little property that could be described as cheap, and there's no way I could buy anything half-way decent without a mortgage.

I may well end up trying a broker, but not all deals are available to brokers, and I'd like to have some idea of what's available first.
