Thu 24th Oct - What Small DFW Things Will You Be Doing Today??!

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

    Afternoon Money Savers,
I don't know where today has gone. Seemed to spend ages trying to book a Dr's appointment (failed!).....when did that become so complicated? Beautiful sunshine lured me out into the garden for the rest of the day.
    Today's small positive things:
*Did the ironing. Switched off for the last item.
    *Made bread.
    *Made tomorrow's packed lunch.
*No heating on. Very warm day here in the East Midlands.
*Meals as per meal plans - black-eyed bean chilli & home made bread rolls.
*Rounded up more windfall pears. Ate 3. Don't want them to go off & be wasted. mr f only averaging 1 a day.....he needs to be upping this.......yes, I am Pear Police today.
*Did a few surveys as only about another £8 to go before I can cash in my Onepoll points for £40.
*Free exercise, as did 1.5 hrs weeding & clearing in the garden.
*Collected a pot of ripe marigold seed heads to sow next year.
*Picked a small bunch of flowers to cheer up the windowsill.
*Watered cucumber plant & rocket seedlings.
*Checked remaining courgette plants. Still producing. Will leave till frosts.
*Dug up a dozen good-sized self-sown foxglove plants to re-plant in the borders for free flowers next year.
    *Completed a prize crossword.
*Continue knitting Christmas present no. 6, as want to cast on my next project.
Hope everyone having a good day.

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
  • wow it's quiet round here! Where are all the usual suspects??! Thanks for starting us off ally! Glad the job is going well, what do you do?

I had a ridiculously early start as had to drive to London for a meeting with the finance team to set my budgets  this was horror on 2 counts and after the absolute, sheer terror of the drive I then had the meeting :eek: (which actually was painless, just outside of my comfort zone as I haven't done it before)

Very little on the DFW front but every little helps :)

    * checked banking
    * had 64p ys sushi for lunch mmmmmmm
    * made peanut butter sandwich & travel mug of coffee to have breakfast on the go
    * collected parcel ordered from Very - no postage if you go to the local click & collect store (£3.95 saving :))
    * walked to the shop to collect instead of drving
    * russle around in the cupboard/fridge for something to eat
    * made a note of mileage to submit tomorrow
    * heating off

That's all :o well at least I wasn't outside spending at will

  • WOOOOOO made it to half term AND it's payday tomorrow :D

Not been great moneysaving or diet wise this week.... but making a lovely fresh start tomorrow, lots of tidying and all sorts, getting deliveries and having some things in the house repaired...
Nearly had 2 disasters today, my phone is broken and I lost my coat, sending myself in to a MoneySaving panic, but luckily, found my coat, and able to send my phone back to manufacturer and borrow another one for a bit, so hopefully all sorted and not spending anything!

    Other bits today:
:) won an 'antenna ball' from Vauxhall hahaha!

:) going to do a few Adpoints now

    :) FPL

    :) no heating on

:) stuck to meal plan, nearly..... i ran out of a drink at work, and 'needed' some chocolate...

looking forward to updating my sig after payday tomorrow!
