Yes. desperatemum's advice is good as the first thing you need to do is get some free professional advice from one of the charitable debt advice organisations.

You can get advice from a CAB 'money advisor' by making an appointment with one at your local CAB office. Make sure it is a 'money advisor' though.

    You can also contact:

    Consumer Credit Counselling Service. Tel: 0800 138 1111 http://www.cccs.co.uk/

    Payplan. Tel: 0800 917 7823 http://www.payplan.com/

It is important to get this professional advice now because:

    1) They can look at you finances in depth with an independent eye, and advise you what is in your best interests.
    2) If you decide bankruptcy is you best option, the court would require that you had sought this kind of advice. So you may as well do it now.

If you want some general info on the process of bankruptcy you can look at:

    http://bankruptcysupportersclub.co.uk

You've taken an important step already in getting this sorted out. :)

With regards to the bailiffs, make sure you know your rights. There is some excellent info here:
