a pleasant surprise (for once)

My head is well and truly out of the sand.

It's a week since I revealed all to hubby and I was still hiding in the "happy" fog of ignorance to some extent.

I've spent the last THREE HOURS going over the figures again and again until I've got it 100% but it appears I can have my 10k debt paid in full on 25th October 2014. If I can raise extra funds it'll be sooner.

I'll be out of the PDL hell this Friday after three incredibly long years! And the first CC will be gone before the year is out.

I was having a bit of a "bad debt day". And feeling very sorry for myself so I decided I couldn't feel much worse and I may as well face it. It's really not as bad as I thought. I'm certain I can cut back further and be debt free sooner but (and please give me a kick up the bum if I'm wrong) this will ease me into it in a way. The monthly repayments are only £100 more than the interest I have been paying on PDLs each month but without the borrowing and will gradually incresse as each item is paid off. The CCs have been close to the max for months so I've not got them (and they've been cut up anyway)

I wish I could turn back the clock and not be doing this but it's such a relief to be hitting it head on and knowing in just a year I'll be debt free and can start saving :-)

Well done Kate, facing it and fixingit too;)

Make sure your payments are as effective if you can by snowballing, there is more advice on some of the threads about this, and paying the highest interest stuff first. Sounds obvious but sometimes we overlook it.

Good luck and look forward to 2014 and a debtfree future:D

  • Thanks for the tips Sazzie. After I posted I realised there's no council tax bill in Feb or march so that's an extra 230 :-) The first to go (after the PDL) is the high interest card with a view to maybe moving another over at 0%. The DFD doesn't take into account the that paying minimum payments on the lower interest cards will pay off a little from the balance.

There are 6 of us in the house and we've allowed 100 a week for groceries but I know I can cut that especially when DH has a week of nights and only eats cereal and sandwiches. Everyone has packed lunches (I can cut some costs there) and hopefully my car insurance will drop in January.
