Hi and welcome. Very interested in following your thread *subscribed* already :) I got married earlier this year and if your up for making things yourself you can have the personal touch and save a fortune. Cannot wait to have my very own diary on here as I've been lurking for a while and we are waiting to exchange on our very first home. I must say £1k overpayment a month is a fab way to start.

Hope your exchange goes smoothly Rachel. Make sure you keep nagging the solicitors!

  • We made an overpayment a couple of weeks ago and the letters have just come through. We are now down to £118,100! Yippeee!

I saw today that my OH and myself can get £60 cashback each if we sign up to a new amex credit card through Top CashBack, so we are going to do that tonight and then will cancel it when the cashback comes through. Hopefully that will be an extra £120 overpayment around xmas time.
  • Hi everyone,

I have tried to do another quick sort out of things we don't need and sold a pair of Animal wellies that i wore once for £10. Also put some books up for sale on our local facebook selling page.

OH got an adsense (you tube videos) payment yesterday of £54, so we have £64 to add to the overpayment pot.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. What are you going to do to top up your overpayments this weekend?

  • Hi everyone,

Still trying to save where I can, although this week has been a bad week. I went on a mid-city break with some friends to Edinburgh and the cost comes in around £350 in total which might make it difficult to hit the £1k overpayment this month. I am doing a number of things to make this up:
Firstly I am selling my iPod that I haven't used in some time. All my music is on my iphone (company phone) so I thought I would covert my iPod into cash. I hope to get between £100 - £120 after ebay and paypal fees.
Secondly I will be making soup at the weekend to freeze for lunches next week - saving of about £6.50 (hopefully per week)
Going to have another route through 'my stuff' ie clothes..shoes...etc to see if i can sell anything else
Thirdly...mmmm.... can't think of anything just yet!

Hope everyone is having a good week and has managed to implement some money saving ideas.
  • Hey misswillow,

Hope you manage to meet your target for this month. Just remember you still need to have you time as well. Good luck with finding clothes and shoes to sell, its something I cannot do lol I keep Lu shoes until they go to shoe heaven.

    Love Rachel

P.s. we exchanged contracts on Wednesday and complete on 18th November so I cannot wait to have a shiny new diary.

  • Thanks Rachel, yes I will still find time for myself! I am off to the fireworks tomorrow with my OH and I am super excited.

    Morning everyone.

The credit card that the OH and I applied for (amex) has come through and the cashback has been paid. That's £60 each to add to the OP this month. Very pleased about this. We will also receive an airport lounge pass as a benefit which is quite useful for me as I travel fairly regularly with work and visiting friends and family (who live in overseas). We just need to cancel the cards before 1 year so that we don't get charged their annual fees.

Also thought I would do a SOA so here it goes

    Mortgage £748
    Fuel £200
    Grocery £200
    Electricity £30
    Gas £40
    Water £20
    Mobile Phone £19
    Internet and phone £24
    TV License £12
    Council Tax £106
    Takeaways £24
    Car service and MOT £50
    Car insurance £40
    Road Tax £12
    House and Contents insurance £10
    Transport to see family(flights) £30
    Misc. £40

    Total = £1551

I have included expenses like the car insurance, MOT, house insurance etc... and have calculated these on a monthly basis.
