Bankruptcy and applying for credit

Hi Everyone

The job i am currently in sends me away every now and then and normally they pay everything up front I.E. hotels, taxi's ETC, and i just claim back food expenses, but now they have changed the process where everything has to be paid upfront by the employee on a credit card and then claim the lot back after the trip.

I declared myself BR back in 2010 and was discharged in 2011, my question is am I able to apply for a Credit card now, or do i have to wait for the 6 years after the BR.

MY boss is very understanding and knows about the BR, but since i have just missed out on an important trip to LA, I can see that his patience may run out.

Many Thanks
Metfan

There was nothing stopping you applying whilst BR, the only rule then is that you have to tell the creditor that you are BR if the amount is over £500. Saying that your chances would have been very slim to noen whilst still BR, however there is a possibility you can now get a CC with Vanquis, or Cap1. They are both high interest cards so you have to really watch your spending. I applied for a Vanquis CC a couple of months after my discharge and was accepted.

  • You're discharged, so you can apply for as much credit as you want.

Unfortunately, you'll probably be refused the 'mainstream' cards.

There's a bunch of cards for people with poor credit histories, but the low initial credit limits might not be much use if your boss is expecting you to pay for flights to LA.

Maybe a prepaid card like Cash Plus? - You can store a reasonable balance, and I can testify I've never had the card declined and they work abroad too.
  • Personally I think it's disgraceful for a company to expect employees to pay for their travel overseas on business. I work in the public sector and have to travel abroad (for legitimate reasons). Work will book my travel and hotel, but I have to pay for the hotel and food & claim it back. I don't have a credit card, but we are allowed to claim an advance to cover the cost of hotels, airport parking, food etc, that will be deducted from the claim.
