Final Demand Letter Incorrect Spelling???
AustralianGamer
I received a final demand letter with my last name spelled incorrectly. Am I able to ignore the letter because it is technically not addressed to me?
If not, what should I do? I owe $960 to a gym which I only used once due to a contract. I had to contact my bank and tell them to stop making payments to the gym as I could not afford it anymore. I did sign some kind of contract.
Thank you kindly in advance.

Only way they can make you pay is to take you to court. What is wrong with the name, wrong initial or typo? Do you gave a common name?
Is it from a debt collector or the gym company?
Normally, unless you are 100% sure it's yours you should send the prove it letter:

As the name is wrong, I would send this anyhow.:beer:0 -
Would this template still apply as I am presuming the OP is in Australia, and this is a UK based site?0

Erm....just presumed no £ key setup, as seen this loads before.
Not a clue!:beer:0 -
Thanks for your replies.
I live in Australia and I have an extremely rare last name. On the final demand letter what looks to be a typo was made; my last name was spelled with two t's instead of one t (the t is the third letter of my last name). And the letter is from a debt collector. I believe the typo may have been made by the gym when they were handing the debt over to the debt collectors.
Thank you

Hi OP, I would say no you can't ignore it because of this (especially as you have admitted you owe the money), but you may be better using an Australian site for advice, as MSE's posters are UK based.0

Hey there,
I never admitted to owing the debt, I haven't been in contact with the gym or the debt collector at all.
Thanks, I'll post elsewhere, but I'll keep an eye on this thread just in case anyway.
