Nationwide approved solicitors - can you not use them?

Hi, heres some facts:
  • I have a new job & moving areas
  • Selling our flat & have solicitors handling sale
  • Saw new house & had offer accepted
Rung Nationwide (our current lender), because we don't need a bigger mortgage, just move the one we have to the new house.
Nationwide say 'oh ya, no problem, you just have to use a solicitor approved by us'. Turns out our solicitor isn't approved by them.

Now, Nationwide made out like it was the end of the world & I couldn't use our existing solicitor, which we'd like to so that we have one entity handling & orchestrating our sale & purchase. I'm gonna ring Nationwide again in the morning but I hoped someone could shed some light on it (other than that people don't rate Nationwide).

Does it incur extra costs? Will they just not deal with our solicitor if they're not approved? It's easier for us to stay with Nationwide 'cos they're not bothered about me being in a new job.

    Ask what you need to do in order to get them added to the panel.

    There usually has to be a certain number of partners and sometimes have to have certain qualifications/awards etc. Im not a massive user of nationwide so i cant say for sure.

    I used to work for a bank and solicitors were taken off panel for a number of reasons, 1 of which was they were a bit dodgy (im not saying thats the case), it could be that its in your favour to not use them.
