Walked out of Sainsbury's Sunday afternoon with the usual fistful of paper, and noticed that every coupon was for extra points rather than money off.
Rummaged through Tesco coupons when I got home - same thing.
Is this a pre-Christmas ploy by supermarkets to maximise their cashflow or a new trend ?
Anyone else had this in last few weeks ?

Probably just a ploy to keep you coming back to them, running in conjunction with all the TV adverts telling you there's no point in going to another supermarket because they price match.
Plant it in your head that you will pay the same in their store as you will in any other, then give you a reason, more points, to come back to them.0 -
No - I've had vouchers for both up to and including yesterday. Not noticed any particular change
The ones I don't like - and I've had them from all the supermarkets I use - are the ones for extra points or cash off my next shop, as long as it's about twice the amount I've just spent. Morrisons seem particularly 'good' at this.0 -
Cashiers at local seem to have started to throw them in the bin themselves before handing over just a receipt to pre-empt all the customers swearing under their breath, crumpling up the vouchers and throwing them back to them in disgust.0

got a £5 of £40 spend on food voucher, shop on Monday valid till 3/11
wasn't expecting it. what a bonus. thanks Tesco. :j0 -

I have just posted a query in the "Shopping Coupons" board about Sainsburys till printed vouchers, but maybe it would be better asked here.....
I know they state that they are Nectar Card specific but can you actually swap them with your mates or would they be rejected?0 -
We shopped in Sainsburys a fair bit and have never had an 'X amount off X spend' just extra points. We shop in Lidl more often than not now....
Just the same as you, we shopped regularly at Sainsbury's. Buying the basics in Aldi first. But Aldi have so improved their range recently that I find I buy less and less at Sainsbury's these days. On the odd occasion I do go in Sainsbury's the till spits I receive are laughable! Never £x of an £x shop, just ridiculously low points for a ridiculously high spend! Thanks but no thanks Sainsburys!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
I give till spits to my mother if it's anything product specific and she hasn't told me they've been disallowed but it seems to me that supermarkets make policy up on the hoof (equine hoof).
I figure maybe supermarkets think we are in zombie Christmas shopping mode already and won't notice the specifics, just that we got a voucher.
It's not very environmentally friendly, especially when the till spits have full colour product pics. I notice the receipts get double sided printing to save ink/paper at Sainsbury's and then you get maybe four bits of paper in full colour.0 -
My friends that work for Sainsburys and they are sick to death of the internet shopping coupon that prints out every time a customer pays without a Nectar card.
No one is bloody interested! Plus one customer threw a screwed up coupon at my friend. She informed a manager about it but he took no notice. You do not throw things at anyone.
That's assault.0 -

The only time I've ever had a money off voucher has been- promotional for a new store in the area (delivered to home as we're in catchment area)
- money off next shop as Asda/Tesco were cheaper on my item(s)
- money of first internet shop
I think I'm going to start going to Customer Services and complaining about the farcical avalanche of useless paper and hope the message gets through.
Someone started a thread about Sainsbury's internet shopping earlier. Very poor policy apparently and yet they keep promoting it.0
