As it stands, it is not important. The country as a whole hasn't had a LBM. In fact I'm sure many on this board can attest - debt doesn't matter until it does matter, then it matters in spades.

Actually I do believe this is something that needs to be taught in schools, possibly during phse lessons or what ever its called. Save the next generation from falling into the debt trap, especially with what they will have to pay if they intend going on to uni.
Couldn't agree more - it was my financial ignorance that caused me to land in debt - I will go all out to teach my children important financial skills such as budgeting and saving.DFW #414, MoneySaver, Income Booster

You do - you owe your share of the national debt (or as it is published) which comes to about £20,000 for every (legal) adult citizen.
Or about £80,000 for every working adult."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

It'll never happen. If the Government didn't want you to spend everything and more, interest rates would never have been made low, and they would stop printing money like water.
People *do* save if real interest rates are high."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
