I use Aldis own brand flour - and though I have only made the 'occasional' bread it turned out fine!
Go on - do a 'comparison' for us - and post the results!
Lol, I'm trying to lose weight not gain it!!! Might leave the diet til after xmas now I'm being forced to do lots and lots of baking :-P
Thanks everyone!!!0 -
I also dabble in doing a bit of baking for hire, and I always, always, always use value flour. I do always sift it though, as I've come across a few bits of chaff (that may be the wrong word!) in the cheaper flours. No difference at all in the end product!0

Ooh, quick question - what butter do you all use?0

I use Lidl bread flour and never had a problem. I have used Tesco and Asda own brand bread flour and had problems.
I use Lidl or Aldi plain and self raising flour and find them both fit for purpose!
Hope that helps.0 -
Cheapest butter here too.... Tesco basics unsalted or Aldi wherever I happen to be first! Think it's so rare people use actual butter, that when people can taste 'butter' that's a bonus!

Basic butter (cheapest, which isn't always the basic), never baking marg or equivalent.Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0

We do a lot of vegan/dairy free stuff to, and I always use Vitalite for that, it's not the cheapest either, but it is the best behaved. Must be the water content or something.

Basics or Aldi unsalted butter for butter cream, fudge etc - but for cake mixes and pastry I use Flora Buttery Spread that we can buy for 50p a large tub at our local "Approved Foods" type shop:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

I don't like butter cream made with unsalted butter (strange I know), I find it sickly sweet....I always use salted butter......call me a Philistine......0
